During March 28, 2026 myself and my fellow peers traveled to Philadelphia to partake in Mic Drop: PR in Entertainment Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) Mid-Atlantic District Conference, which was hosted by Temple University.

This was my second time with 1853 communications and I have been extremely humbled to join my fellow colleagues once more at this event. I connected with many different Public Relations students. Not just Temple University, but from other colleges across the country.

Similarly to my first experience with this event, we met with multiple speakers during the beginning of the event before breaking off into smaller “breakout” groups. I was joined by my fellow Knights in the first session hosted by Tiara Robinson who gave an immaculate presentation about being an event planner at Warner Bros. Tiara gave valuable insight about the PR world through her lecture and I think it really set the stage for the seniors of my group who will be taking the next steps of their journey very soon.

Our second and possibly our favorite breakout session was hosted by Kate Marlys Rodgers who is the owner and founder of Philly PR Girl LLC. She is also an adjunct Professor at Temple University, and her presentation was nothing short of fantastic! Her presentation felt like a college lecture with expert insight, creating a unique flavor of familiar and knowledge. It reminded me of my own professor who not only worked in PR but has a knack for teaching it too. Kate took the time to connect with all of us after her session and even talked about internship opportunities at Philly PR Girl. Two of my fellow Knights returned to class soon after our trip to announce that they had been accepted as interns, hats off to them!

My favorite part about this conference is the fact that even if you’ve been before, you never know what to expect. There’s knowledge around every corner and I can only imagine how fun the next conference will be.
