Fall 2024

In the Fall of 2024, 1853 Communications spent the semester working with Arcadia University’s Center for Teaching Learning and Mentoring (CTLM) and a local volunteer group called Residents for Sustainable Cheltenham. 17 hard-working students took action to research local programs and to create flyers, social media mockups, and at the end of the semester, conducted two different presentations to showcase our work and findings to the clients. We also hosted an on-campus event for Residents for Sustainable Cheltenham to help inform college students about the use of single-use plastics and food waste.

Spring 2025

In the Spring of 2025, 1853 Communications worked on professional development activities to help further the achievements of our PR agency and apply for a PRSSA Star Chapter Award. We toured Philadelphia media organizations such as Red Thread PR and 6abc. Our group conducted a presentation about the field of public relations and PRSSA to over 70 students at Cheltenham High School. 1853 also collected non-perishables and health products to donate to Arcadia University’s pantry. We spent a few classes learning about the ethics of PR, listening to PRSSA’s liaison Courtney Rice discuss the importance of portfolios, and working on our resumes. We ate brunch at the Visit Philadelphia building while learning more about PR from speakers Courtney Rice, Eric Cortes, and John Ryan. Finally, we spent a Saturday at Temple University for their sports PR conference where we heard from various speakers and networked with local professionals.
